Best Viewpoints in Guatapé Village

The Piedra del Peñol gets all the attention but Guatapé pueblo itself has half a dozen viewpoints worth chasing. They give you angles on the lake, the painted streets and the church that you cannot get from the rock.

This guide walks through the best viewpoints in the village, when to visit each one and what they cost, if anything.

Mirador del Cristo Redentor

A short hike from the village leads to a small Cristo statue with a panoramic view of the lake stretching toward the rock. Sunrise here beats anything from the official rock summit.

The walk takes 25 minutes one way along a marked dirt path. Wear shoes with grip and bring water. Entry is free.

Malecón Turístico

The lakefront promenade is the easy viewpoint for everyone. You walk five minutes from the central plaza, sit on a bench and watch the boats come and go against a backdrop of green islands.

Late afternoon and sunset are the standout moments. The benches fill up so arrive 30 minutes before sundown to claim a good spot.

Bell tower of Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen

For a small donation the church often lets visitors climb the bell tower for a top down view of the colorful pueblo and the surrounding hills. Hours are limited, ask at the entrance.

The climb is a tight spiral staircase, not for those with claustrophobia. The view at the top is intimate and beautifully framed by the church arches.

Rooftop bars and cafés

A handful of cafés around the central plaza have rooftop terraces that offer a quieter version of the view from the church tower. Order a coffee or a cocktail and stay an hour.

Most rooftops open from 11 AM to 9 PM. Sunset here is the easiest combination of view, drink and safety, no climbing needed.

The viewpoints in Guatapé pueblo are subtle but rewarding. Pair the Cristo Redentor for sunrise and the malecón or a rooftop for sunset and you will see the village in two completely different lights in one day.
