Medellín and Guatapé Weekend Itinerary
A weekend gives you enough time to combine the urban energy of Medellín with the rural calm of Guatapé without rushing. Two nights, three days and the right base let you cover the highlights and still leave room for a slow lunch or two.
This itinerary balances city and lake, sets realistic times and tells you where to sleep each night to make the geography work.
Friday, arrive in Medellín
Land in Medellín, settle in El Poblado or Laureles. Spend the late afternoon walking the neighborhood, grab dinner at a local restaurant and have an early night.
Confirm your Saturday tour to Guatapé before you go to sleep. Pickup is between 7 and 8 AM and you do not want logistics drama at dawn.

Saturday, full day in Guatapé
Leave Medellín by 7 AM with your tour or rental car. Climb the Piedra del Peñol around 9 AM, lunch in Guatapé pueblo around 1 PM, boat tour or zócalo walk in the afternoon.
If you sleep in Guatapé, send your luggage with you and stay overnight. If you stay in Medellín, return by 7 PM and have dinner in Provenza or Laureles.
Sunday, Comuna 13 and farewell
Spend Sunday morning on a Comuna 13 walking tour with a local guide. The colorful murals, the escalators and the live hip hop are the perfect contrast to the rural rhythm of Saturday.
Lunch in El Poblado, an afternoon coffee at a specialty café and a flight or onward bus in the evening. Pace this day slowly, your legs will thank you.
Where to sleep each night
Two practical options. Sleep both nights in Medellín if you prefer city energy and easier transport. Sleep Saturday night in Guatapé if you want sunset on the lake and a slow Sunday morning before driving back.
If you sleep in Guatapé, plan an early Sunday departure to fit Comuna 13 in the afternoon, or skip Comuna 13 and walk the pueblo and the malecón one more time.
A two night weekend covers Medellín and Guatapé without burning out. Lock in your Saturday tour ahead of time, choose your sleeping zone deliberately and the rest of the weekend will fall into place around you.
